In this project, we bring a social-spatial perspective to evaluate how equitable the adoption of residential solar PV has been. To bridge the gap between energy justice and technical literature on solar energy, we place the concept of access to solar energy at the core of our research. We define access to solar energy as the combination of four key factors influencing the ability of people to adopt solar PV systems. Through spatial analysis, the concept of access is used to (1) evaluate current policies for equity in the adoption of solar PV and (2) identify potential policy strategies that could lead to a more equitable utilisation of the solar PV potential available in the city. To demonstrate our approach, we selected the city of the Hague in The Netherlands.
